Originally invented in San Francisco in 2013, the Baby Turtle is a cleverly constructed contrast of bitter, sweet, tart, and vegetal all with a little fluffy bow on top. We've included it in this Margarita Month's Club cocktails as we were looking for a savoury play on a tequila based cocktail that could show off its chops as the ballerina pirouetting right on the edge of the blade between silly and serious. In no particular order, we've blended in Tequila Tromba Reposado, a perfectly aged 100% agave tequila from Jalisco distilled by Marco Cedano (former head distiller at Don Julio), locally crafted Marionette Bitter Curacao lends its iconic aperitif character, all married with fresh ruby grapefruit juice whose tart, succulent notes create texture and tail. Finally, house crafted cinnamon ties everything together to create the symphony that calls you back to the glass time and time again.
This cocktail from Trick Dog is the liquid equivalent of finding a Renaissance painting in your grandmother's freezer, right between the peas and the regret. It's as if an alchemist, three-quarters through turning lead into gold, got distracted by a passing thought about amphibians and decided, no, this is better. It doesn't sit in the glass so much as it rearranges the space around it, with the quiet confidence of a beverage that knows it's two steps ahead of your palate and five ahead of your expectations
