We finally launched an advent calendar

We finally launched an advent calendar

AD VENIRE.

Advent and adventure share an etymological ancestor: ad venire, Latin for “to arrive.”

After seven years of being asked, we have arrived. The Curatif Advent Calendar. Twelve cocktails of Can’mas.

Curatif Advent Calendar

Why it took seven years

Every October, someone at the chaos factory says “we should do an advent calendar.” Then we work out we should have started in February. Then February is Margarita Month, so we’re busy with Margarita stuff. Then we miss the print deadline. Then we say “next year, for sure.” Then next year comes around and you will never guess what happens.

Not this year.

The box

Paul Theobald designed it, and has outdone himself on every fold, cut and finish. Louise spent countless hours specifying every last detail down to the mould. And the drinks are the most popular, the rarest, the most coveted things we make, all in one box.

Twelve cocktails, designed to be shaken, shared and savoured.

What’s in the box?

  • Tommy’s Margarita: sharp, bright, agave-forward.

  • Espresso Martini: rich, creamy, coffee upfront, chocolate on the finish.

  • Pornstar Martini: vibrant, fruit-forward, zesty finish.

  • Piña Colada: coconut cream, fresh pineapple, a blend of rums.

  • Grapefruit Negroni: the negroni you have when you’re not having a negroni.

  • Bramble: crisp, jammy blackberry, sharp lemon.

  • Amaretto Sour: marzipan, stone fruit, vanilla, cut with tart lemon.

  • Top Shelf Pearl Martini: briny, oceanic, savoury, velvety.

  • Cosmopolitan: citrus vodka, dry curaçao, lime, a splash of cranberry.

  • Sunshine State Gimlet: a sharp burst of lime against piney gin.

  • Top Shelf Mai Tai: 1944 Oakland tiki, done properly. Boozy, bougie, indulgent.

  • Peach Iced Tea: smooth black tea, juicy peach, clean finish.

Limited means limited

Christmas venires but once a year, and these boxes are limited.

Marketing thought the number we ordered was ambitious. Operations said we didn’t buy enough. We only found out they disagreed a couple of weeks ago. So buy now or miss out, we guess.

We’ve checked the list twice. We don’t care if you’ve been naughty. Our list is filled with drinks that are better than nice.

How to drink it

We put the drinks in an order we think works (left to right, top to bottom). You do not have to listen to us. A few alternatives:

Roll the dice. Twelve cocktails, two dice. Roll your dice, pick something nice.

Mad Mouse. Open a door, get on the dancefloor.

Blindfold. Glass with ice ready, blindfold on, open a door, pour. We can’t promote drinking games and never would. Having said that.

The gift that you give to get back. “Merry Christmas, I got you this. Oh, we’re here now, so I suppose if you reckon we should have one.”
